The opening round of the 2019 Calder Cup Playoffs ends tonight as Milwaukee hosts Iowa in Game 5… Outscored 13-1 while losing the first two games of the series, Milwaukee has bounced back with wins in Games 3 and 4 to force tonight’s deciding contest… Defenseman Frederic Allard (1-1-2) scored 12:33 into overtime on Friday night to give the Admirals a 5-4 win in Game 4… Phil Di Giuseppe (2-0-2) and Anthony Richard (3-1-4) each scored twice in regulation and Justin Kirkland (1-2-3) notched two assists… Troy Grosenick (2-2, 4.03, .865) made 28 saves in Game 4, and has a 2.27 GAA and a .907 save percentage in Milwaukee’s two wins… Former Admiral Cal O’Reilly (2-3-5) has points in all four games of the series for Iowa… Gerald Mayhew (4-1-5) picked up two goals in Game 4 and leads the Wild in goals and points (tied) this postseason… Andrew Hammond (2-2, 2.15, .922) stopped 25 shots in Game 4 for the Wild… Milwaukee has scored eight goals in the last two games after being held to 10 goals in its first eight meetings with Iowa this season… The Admirals have not trailed in the last two games, although the Wild rallied to tie after being down 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 in Game 4… Milwaukee is still looking for its first power-play goal of the series (0-for-18); Iowa is 5-for-25 with the man advantage… Tonight’s game is the 179th winner-take-all playoff contest in AHL history… Home teams are 110-68 (.618), including 18-6 since 2014… Milwaukee is 3-4 in winner-take-all games during its AHL history, including 3-3 on home ice; the last Admirals victory in this situation was a 4-1 win over the Iowa Stars on Apr. 30, 2006… This is the Iowa Wild’s first-ever game facing playoff elimination.

In yesterday’s Stanley Cup Playoff action, former AHL All-Stars Warren Foegele and Nino Niederreiter scored early in the third period to send Carolina to a 2-1 win over the N.Y. Islanders and a 2-0 series lead… Curtis McElhinney, a two-time AHL All-Star, made 17 saves in relief to earn his first career Stanley Cup Playoff win… 2012 AHL All-Star Tyson Barrie picked up a goal and two assists to help Colorado to a 4-3 win over San Jose, evening their series at 1-1.
