The Colorado Avalanche, parent club of the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters, announced Wednesday that they have signed free-agent forward Ben Walter to a one-year deal.
Walter, 26, spent most of the 2009-10 season with New Jersey’s AHL affiliate, the Lowell Devils, where he led the team in scoring with 58 points (22g, 36a) in 78 games.
The Beaconsfield, Que., native also skated in two games with New Jersey in late January.
Selected by Boston in the fifth round of the 2004 Entry Draft, Walter has recorded at least 20 goals in four of his five AHL seasons. He has appeared in 346 career AHL games with Lowell, Bridgeport and Providence, totaling 102 goals and 179 assists for 281 points.
In 24 career NHL games with the Bruins, New York Islanders and Devils, Walter has one goal.
