Barons knock off Bulldogs in OT

Christian Ehrhoff scored his second goal of the game at the 2:07 mark of overtime to give Cleveland a 4-3 win over Hamilton at Copps Coliseum on Saturday night.

All told, 10 of the 11 games played around the AHL on Saturday were decided by a single goal.

Both of Ehrhoff’s goals, his second and third of the season, came on Cleveland power plays. Garrett Stafford and Riley Armstrong also scored for the Barons. For Stafford, his first goal of the season had special significance as it came on the same ice where he suffered a frightening injury in a stick-swinging incident during last year’s playoffs.

Tomas Plekanec led the Bulldogs with a goal and two assists.

Elsewhere on Saturday:
Hartford got a third-period goal from Craig Weller and 30 saves from Jason LaBarbera to defeat Bridgeport, 2-1, and improve to 8-0-0-0 on the season… Clarke Wilm scored twice and Ian White recorded four assists as St. John’s beat Edmonton, 4-3… Mathieu Darche had two goals and an assist and Hershey prevailed in a shootout for a 4-3 win over Providence… Chuck Kobasew scored early in the third period to propel Lowell to a 4-3 victory over Springfield… Jason Pominville scored with 5:46 left in regulation and again 48 seconds into overtime as Rochester rallied past Binghamton, 5-4… Marc-Andre Fleury made 15 of his 23 saves in the third period and overtime, then stopped six of eight shootout attempts to help Wilkes-Barre/Scranton past Norfolk, 3-2… Brooks Laich scored at 2:30 of overtime to give Portland a 4-3 win over Worcester… Josh Harding made 40 saves for his second shutout in six days, leading Houston past Grand Rapids, 1-0… Dustin Brown scored three times as Manchester beat Albany, 5-2… In the final game ever at historic Winnipeg Arena, David LeNeveu made 36 saves and was a perfect 5-for-5 in the shootout as Utah earned its first win of the season, 2-1 over Manitoba.
