The Columbus Blue Jackets, parent club of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons, today announced that the club has acquired forward Spencer Machacek from the Winnipeg Jets, parent club of the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps, in exchange for forward Tomas Kubalik.
Machacek, 24, was selected by the Winnipeg franchise in the third round, 67th overall, of the 2008 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right wing has recorded two goals and seven assists in 25 career NHL games with Atlanta and Winnipeg, as well as 93 goals and 132 assists for 225 points in 341 AHL games with Chicago and St. John’s, including 11-14-25 in 57 appearances with the IceCaps this season.
An AHL All-Star in 2011, Machacek is a native of Lethbridge, Alta., and won a Memorial Cup championship with the Vancouver Giants in 2007.
Kubalik, 22, has played 54 games with Springfield this season, earning 20 points (14 goals, six assists) and 50 penalty minutes.
The Plzen, Czech Rep., native has played in 12 career NHL games, all with Columbus, recording four points (1g, 3a) and six penalty minutes. In 180 career AHL games with Springfield, Kubalik has totaled 49 goals and 47 assists for 96 points.
Kubalik was originally selected by Columbus in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Draft.
