Blues ink forward Spina

The St. Louis Blues, parent club of the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen, have signed forward David Spina to a two-way contract, Blues executive vice president and general manager Doug Armstrong announced today.

Spina, 27, has spent the last three seasons with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) San Antonio Rampage. In 2009-10, the 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound forward was limited to just 26 games after a preseason injury but still tallied 17 points (six goals and seven assists).

He registered a career-best 54 points (16-38-54) in 63 games for the Rampage during the 2008-09 campaign.

In his five-year AHL career, Spina has totaled 180 points in 301 appearances including 69 goals, 111 assists and 237 penalty minutes between Utah, Springfield and San Antonio.

The Springfield, Ill. native was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Phoenix Coyotes on July 2, 2008. He spent three seasons at Boston College (2001-04) before turning pro and racked up 78 points (36 goals, 42 assists) in 98 NCAA games.
