Northeastern University announced on Wednesday that Providence Bruins forward Brendan Walsh has been named assistant coach of men’s hockey under newly named head coach Greg Cronin.
Walsh, voted the Bruins’ fan favorite for the 2004-05 season, is a Dorchester, Mass., native and was a member of the 1999 national champion University of Maine team.
“I’m thrilled that Brendan Walsh has joined the Northeastern hockey staff,” said Cronin. “He made a tremendous sacrifice to retire from a professional hockey career in the Boston Bruins organization. His sacrifice is a reflection of his commitment to contribute to the rebuilding process at Northeastern."
Walsh, 30, played the last four seasons in the American Hockey League with Providence, San Antonio and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 15 goals, 18 assists and 951 penalty minutes in 174 career AHL games.
He appeared in 45 matches with the Bruins in 2004-05, compiling five points (1g, 4a) and 284 PIM.
