The Charlotte Checkers have signed forward Kerby Rychel to an American Hockey League contract.
Rychel, 25, began the 2019-20 season in the KHL, skating in seven games for Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk.
Last season, the Los Angeles native appeared in 57 games with the AHL’s Stockton Heat, scoring a career-high 23 goals and adding 20 assists for 43 points.
Rychel has played 289 regular-season games in the AHL with Stockton, Laval, Toronto, Lake Erie and Springfield, registering 78 goals and 119 assists for 197 points. He has tallied three goals and eight assists in 28 playoff games, and won a Calder Cup with Lake Erie in 2016.
An AHL All-Star in 2017, Rychel has recorded three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 43 career NHL games with Montreal, Columbus and Calgary.
