IOWA 6, ROCKFORD 3
Iowa scored four times in the first period and added two more goals in the second en route to a 6-3 road win over Rockford at the MetroCentre on Monday, giving the Chops a sweep of the teams’ home-and-home set.
Defenseman Brian Salcido had three points (1-2-3) for Iowa, including a shorthanded goal, and now shows seven points (2-5-7) in his last two contests.
Francis Wathier, T.J. Trevelyan, and Matt Beleskey all finished with a goal and an assist for the Chops.
Drew Miller and Matt Caruana added single goals apiece, and Eric Boguniecki chipped in a pair of helpers on the night. Iowa went 3-for-5 on the power play in addition to receiving Salcido’s shorthanded marker.
Chops goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur earned the victory in net with 28 saves on 31 shots.
Trailing 6-0, the IceHogs cut the deficit in half with a trio of third-period goals. Evan Brophey, Michael Blunden, and Pete MacArthur all lit the lamp.
WORCESTER 3, PORTLAND 2
Worcester avenged Sunday’s 7-1 loss to Portland in Maine with a 3-2 victory over the Pirates on Monday at the DCU Center.
The game was rescheduled from Dec. 19, when it was postponed due to inclement winter weather.
Ryan Vesce scored twice and added an assist for the Sharks, and Lukas Kaspar also factored into all three goals (1-2-3). Matt Fornataro chipped in two assists in the win, and goaltender Taylor Dakers stopped 22 of 24 shots between the pipes.
Marc-Andre Gragnani had a goal and an assist for the Pirates, while Marek Zagrapan also lit the lamp.
MILWAUKEE 6, SAN ANTONIO 2
Jed Ortmeyer scored twice and defenseman Mark Matheson had three points (1-2-3) as Milwaukee took a 6-2 win over visiting San Antonio at the Bradley Center.
Ryan Maki, Ryan Jones, and Patric Hornqvist added goals in the winning effort, while Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli each contributed two assists.
Admirals goaltender Drew MacIntyre stopped 26 shots to pick up the victory, as Milwaukee (21-9-0-1, 43 points) opened up a three-point lead atop the West Division.
Sean Sullivan and Jeff Hoggan scored for the Rampage, whose three-game winning streak came to an end.
