Coyotes, Canadiens trade AHL forwards

The Arizona Coyotes, parent club of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons, on Tuesday acquired forward Christian Thomas from the Montreal Canadiens, parent club of the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps, in exchange for forward Lucas Lessio.

The 23-year-old Thomas has collected seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 18 AHL games with St. John’s this season, as well as two assists in five NHL games with Montreal.

Thomas has played 203 career AHL games, totaling 49 goals and 51 assists for 100 points. He was originally a second-round draft choice (40th overall) by the New York Rangers in 2010, and has one goal and two assists in 26 career NHL contests.

Lessio, 22, was a second-round pick by Phoenix (56th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He had seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 24 games with Springfield this season.

Lessio has appeared in 147 career AHL games, recording 52 goals and 47 assists for 99 points. He has two goals and three assists in 29 NHL outings.
