HAMILTON 4, IOWA 2
Matt D’Agostini netted two goals, including the game-winner, and goaltender Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves as Hamilton posted a 4-2 road victory over Iowa on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Arena.
The Bulldogs have won four straight games and eight of their last 10 (8-2-0-0), lifting them into a second-place tie with Manitoba in the North Division. Both teams have 60 points with 26 games remaining.
D’Agostini, who has a four-game scoring streak (3-4-7), netted one goal each in the first and second periods and finished with 10 of Hamilton’s 43 shots on the night. Eric Manlow also scored to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead entering the final 20 minutes.
The Stars got on the board in the third period, receiving goals from Marty Sertich and B.J. Crombeen, with a Hamilton goal by Mathieu Biron wedged in between.
Halak captured his third consecutive victory and improved his season record to 13-9-2.
Iowa’s three-game winning streak came to an end.
GRAND RAPIDS 5, SAN ANTONIO 4
Five different players netted goals as Grand Rapids edged visiting San Antonio by a 5-4 final at the Van Andel Arena.
Darren McCarty tallied the eventual game-winning goal for the Griffins 41 seconds into the third period and added an assist. Garrett Stafford and Mattias Ritola also posted a goal and a helper in the victory.
Carl Corazzini and Francis Lemieux rounded out Grand Rapids’ scoring, and goaltender Adam Berkhoel picked up the win with 32 saves.
Bill Thomas and Chris Durno led the Rampage with a goal and an assist apiece.
San Antonio head coach Greg Ireland made his first visit back to Grand Rapids, where he coached the Griffins to a 109-65-8-10 record over two-plus seasons (2005-07).
MILWAUKEE 3, QUAD CITY 2 (SO)
John Vigilante’s goal in the fifth round of a shootout lifted Milwaukee to a 3-2 win over visiting Quad City at the Bradley Center.
Matt Ellison scored the tying goal in regulation and added a shootout marker for the Admirals, who moved two points up on the Flames for fifth place and a potential playoff spot in the West Division.
Ads winger Kevin Ulanski also netted a regulation goal, and goaltender Pekka Rinne earned the win with 26 saves.
Brandon Prust and Krys Kolanos lit the lamp in regulation for the Flames, who tied an AHL record by participating in their 16th shootout of the season (9-7).
