The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have acquired right wing Darren Reid from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for center Daniel Corso.
Reid will report to the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms.
"This is basically a position trade," said Flyers interim general manager Paul Holmgren. "We feel that between the Flyers and the Phantoms we are sort of overloaded with centers. Darren is a right wing and at this time, we feel that we are a little short on right wingers. He’s a bigger guy and right now the Phantoms are lacking a little bit of size. Darren will help us in that regard. This trade is going to allow some of our younger players with the Phantoms to move back to their normal positions, in particular Ryan Potulny and Frederik Cabana, who we want playing in the middle of the ice."
Reid, 23, registered a goal and five penalty minutes in 10 games this season for the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons. Over the last three seasons with Springfield, Reid has recorded 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points and 163 penalty minutes in 116 regular-season AHL games.
Reid made his NHL debut with the Lightning during the 2005-06 season and posted one assist in seven games. He was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2002.
Corso, 28, has appeared in six games with the Phantoms this season, scoring two goals and recording four assists.
The Montreal native has played in 77 career NHL games with St. Louis and Atlanta, totaling 14 goals and 25 points. His best offensive season was 2000-01 when he scored 10 goals in 28 games with the Blues.
In 254 career AHL contests with Philadelphia, Chicago, Binghamton and Worcester, Corso has totaled 71 goals and 118 assists for 189 points.
