The Philadelphia Flyers, parent club of the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms, have acquired forward Kris Newbury from the New York Rangers, parent club of the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, in exchange for defenseman Danny Syvret.
Newbury, 31, is a three-time 20-goal scorer in the AHL who has also topped 100 penalty minutes on eight occasions. Newbury led Connecticut in scoring each of the last three seasons, putting up 20 goals and 42 assists for 62 points in 70 games in 2012-13, good for 10th in the AHL in points. He also appeared in six regular-season games and three Stanley Cup Playoff contests with the Rangers last season.
Newbury has played 599 career AHL games with Connecticut/Hartford, the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Toronto Marlies and the St. John’s Maple Leafs, totaling 142 goals and 297 assists for 439 points along with 1,332 penalty minutes. He participated in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2007.
In 72 career NHL games with New York, Detroit and Toronto, Newbury has recorded four goals, five assists and 132 PIM.
Syvret, 28, recorded six goals and 34 assists for 40 points in 76 games last season for Adirondack, ranking seventh among AHL defensemen in scoring and tied for third in assists. Syvret’s 20 power-play assists and 25 power-play points were both tied for first among AHL blueliners.
The eight-year pro has skated in 483 AHL games with Adirondack/Philadelphia, Peoria, Syracuse, Hershey, Springfield, Grand Rapids and Hamilton, registering 46 goals and 206 assists for 252 points. Syvret was a First Team AHL All-Star in 2009.
Syvret has appeared in 59 career NHL games with Philadelphia, Anaheim and Edmonton, notching three goals and four assists.
