HERSHEY 5, BINGHAMTON 2
Hershey scored four goals in the second period and never looked back on its way to a 5-2 win over Binghamton on Wednesday at the Giant Center.
Fourth-year pro Grant Potulny, a member of the Senators for the past three seasons, led the Bears with a pair of goals. He now has a team-high five tallies in four games against his former club this season.
Scott Barney posted a goal and an assist for Hershey, and Joe Motzko and Jason Morgan also scored.
Bears goaltender Frederic Cassivi stopped 25 of 27 shots to pick up the win, improving to 10-9-1 on the campaign.
Ilya Zubov and Niko Dimitrakos netted goals for the Senators.
CHICAGO 7, PEORIA 4
Darren Haydar, the AHL’s MVP with Chicago in 2006-07, notched two goals and added two assists as the Wolves powered past visiting Peoria by a 7-4 final at the Allstate Arena.
Haydar’s power play goal at 9:54 of the second period marked the 400th point of his AHL career, and he added numbers 401 and 402 later in the contest.
Haydar has spent most of this season with the parent Atlanta Thrashers and scored his first career NHL goal on Oct. 13.
Jason Krog tallied a game-high five points (2-3-5) for the Wolves, who also received a pair of goals from 2006-07 rookie of the year Brett Sterling.
Four other players contributed multiple points on the night, and goaltender Ondrej Pavelec picked up the win with 33 saves.
Charles Linglet paced the Rivermen with two goals and an assist in the losing effort.
TORONTO 4, SYRACUSE 3
David Ling’s power play goal with 20 seconds left in regulation capped a Toronto rally and propelled the host Marlies to a 4-3 victory over Syracuse at Ricoh Coliseum.
Syracuse had built a 3-1 second-period lead on the strength of goals by Derek Dorsett, Clay Wilson, and Andrew Murray.
But Toronto’s Kris Newbury lit the lamp at 12:29 of the second, and Simon Gamache tallied the equalizer midway through the final stanza, with Ling picking up the lone assist.
Ling’s late game-winner was assisted by Derrick Walser and Gamache.
Marlies goaltender Justin Pogge improved to 8-1-4 on the season with 24 saves.
ALBANY 3, ROCHESTER 2
Albany scored three times in the second period to rally for a 3-2 win over visiting Rochester at the Times Union Center on Wednesday.
The Americans netted the game’s first two tallies, as Rob Globke potted his fifth of the season in the first stanza and Clarke MacArthur notched his 10th early in the second.
Albany’s Bobby Hughes, Brandon Nolan, and Dave Gove all then scored within a 11:35 span in that second period to give the River Rats a lead they would maintain for the rest of the contest.
The rally made a winner of goaltender Justin Peters, who stopped 22 of 24 shots and helped Albany snap a brief two-game losing skid.
Rochester’s losing streak extended to seven games, marking its longest winless skid since also suffering a seven-game streak from Feb. 11-26, 2006 (0-6-0-1).
BRIDGEPORT 3, NORFOLK 0
Goaltender Mike Morrison pitched a 22-save shutout as Bridgeport blanked Norfolk by a 3-0 final at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Jamie Fraser and Jeff Tambellini tallied a goal and a helper apiece for the Sound Tigers, who won a season-high third straight game. Tambellini’s tally came shorthanded.
Ben Walter opened the game’s scoring with an unassisted goal just 53 seconds into the second period.
Norfolk suffered its second consecutive shutout and has been outscored 9-1 during its current three-game losing skid.
QUAD CITY 2, IOWA 1 (SO)
Quad City’s Krys Kolanos scored the only shootout goal for either side as the Flames edged visiting Iowa by a 2-1 count at the I Wireless Center.
Rookie defenseman Ethan Graham gave the Stars a 1-0 lead with his first professional goal at 7:08 of the first period, a tally that would stand up for most of the night.
The Flames tied it, though, at 13:47 of the third on a goal by Brandon Prust.
Quad City rookie netminder Matt Keetley made 29 saves through the first 65 minutes and went a perfect 5-for-5 in the shootout as the Flames moved to 4-1-0-1 in their last six outings.
