ROCHESTER 3, SAN ANTONIO 2 (SO)
Rob Globke scored twice in the third period and once in the shootout as Rochester came from behind to defeat San Antonio, 3-2, in a Saturday matinee before 6,905 fans at the Blue Cross Arena.
The victory snapped the Americans’ seven-game home winless streak (0-4-2-1).
The Rampage got on the board first on Daniel Carcillo‘s goal 6:30 into the game, and nursed the lead until Globke scored with 8:06 remaining in the third period.
After Rochester was whistled for a bench minor for having too many men on the ice, Bill Thomas put San Antonio back in front with just 2:05 to play. But Globke tied it again, this time with 23 seconds remaining and goaltender Adam Dennis pulled for an extra attacker.
After a scoreless OT, Globke and Drew Larman converted in the shootout for the Amerks, while Dennis stopped four of five Rampage attempts.
Rochester finished with a 38-18 edge in shots on goal, including 27-8 over the final two periods plus overtime. Josh Tordjman made 35 saves in the loss.
San Antonio is 6-2-1-1 with four games remaining on its 14-game road trip.
TORONTO 3, HAMILTON 0
Scott Clemmensen made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season as Toronto blanked Hamilton, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
It was Clemmensen’s first win at Ricoh Coliseum since Oct. 27.
Jeremy Williams recorded a goal and an assist and Derrick Walser and Ben Ondrus added power-play goals for the Marlies (32-11-1-4), whose previous seven victories had each been by a one-goal margin.
Jaroslav Halak stopped 32 of 35 shots for the Bulldogs, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.
SYRACUSE 3, ALBANY 1
A pair of first-period goals held up as Syracuse posted a 3-1 victory over host Albany at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, N.Y.
Crunch wingers Derek Dorsett and Adam Pineault scored less than three minutes apart in the opening stanza. Pineault’s goal at 15:38 stood up as the game-winner.
2008 AHL All-Star Clay Wilson netted a third-period goal for Syracuse, and goaltender Dan LaCosta made the effort stand up with 19 saves in net.
The Crunch pulled into a tie with Hamilton for the North Division’s third and final guaranteed playoff spot.
Defenseman Bryan Rodney scored for the River Rats, who have dropped their last two games.
Albany has now lost all five of their "home" games in Glens Falls since last postseason.
PORTLAND 5, BRIDGEPORT 2
Portland scored three goals in the first period and never looked back in a 5-2 road victory over Bridgeport at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
2008 AHL All-Star Andrew Ebbett had a game-high three points (1-2-3) in the win. Geoff Peters and Joe Callahan each netted their first AHL goal of the season for Portland, which also received markers from Jason King and Geoff Platt.
Pirates goaltender Mike McKenna picked up the win with 20 saves, helping Portland pull within two points of Hartford for second place in the Atlantic Division.
Bridgeport’s Jean Desrochers netted his first AHL goal of the season, and rookie Kyle Okposo also scored in the losing effort.
SPRINGFIELD 3, LOWELL 1
Springfield netted a goal in each period on its way to a 3-1 win over visiting Lowell at the MassMutual Center.
The Falcons matched a season high with their third straight win and moved to 8-1-0-0 against the Devils this season.
Rob Schremp, Jonas Almtorp and Stephen Werner all scored for Springfield, with Almtorp netting the first goal of his AHL career.
Springfield rookie goaltender Devan Dubnyk made 19 saves for his second consecutive victory.
The Devils’ lone goal was scored by Noah Clarke. Lowell’s winless skid extended to 12 games (0-9-2-1).
PHILADELPHIA 3, MANCHESTER 2
Jared Ross netted a pair of goals to lead visiting Philadelphia to a 3-2 win over Manchester at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Rookie Kyle Greentree scored off a rebound for the Phantoms in the second period, tallying his team-leading 16th goal of the campaign.
Ross’ second of the game at 16:43 of the middle stanza made it a 3-1 Phantoms lead.
That goal turned out to be the game-winner, as Manchester’s David Meckler brought his club within a goal with 1:22 to play in the game. Kevin Dallman scored for the Monarchs earlier in the contest.
Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe turned aside 26 shots in the winning effort.
HERSHEY 5, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 3
Chris Bourque had two goals and an assist to lead Hershey past host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5-3 at the Wachovia Arena.
The Bears built a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes on the strength of goals by Bourque, Ben Clymer, and Andrew Gordon.
After Dave Gove pulled the Penguins within 3-1, Hershey’s Andrew Joudrey made it 4-1 midway through the second period, and Bourque tallied a power play marker 2:04 into the third.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton pulled closer, as Connor James and Ned Havern lit the lamp in the third period. It marked Havern’s first career AHL goal.
Hershey goaltender Daren Machesney earned the win with 22 saves, improving his season record to 15-3-2.
BINGHAMTON 3, NORFOLK 2
2008 AHL All-Star defenseman Brian Lee tallied a goal and an assist to lead visiting Binghamton past Norfolk by a 3-2 count at Scope Arena.
Lee, a former first-round draft pick, notched his third goal of the season and just his second since Oct. 28.
Matt Carkner and Josh Hennessy also netted goals for the B-Sens, who earned a split of their two-game set in Norfolk.
Senators goaltender Brian Elliott made 28 saves in the victory, helping Binghamton move into a tie with Albany for the East Division’s fourth and final playoff spot.
Kyle Wanvig scored his team-leading 15th goal for the Admirals, and Karl Stewart also lit the lamp.
LAKE ERIE 3, GRAND RAPIDS 2
Wyatt Smith’s shorthanded goal at 5:08 of the third period lifted Lake Erie to a 3-2 win over visiting Grand Rapids before a crowd of 11,013 fans at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
The Monsters avenged a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Griffins on Friday night.
Mark McCutcheon picked up the lone assist on Smith’s third goal of the season. All three of the goals have come on special teams, as Smith had previously tallied a pair of power play markers.
Jamie Lundmark and Eric Healey also scored for the Monsters, and goaltender Mike Wall turned in a 40-save performance for the victory.
The Griffins received goals from Evan McGrath and Mark Cullen in the losing effort.
CHICAGO 3, MILWAUKEE 1
Alexandre Giroux and Jason Krog both had a hand in every goal, scoring once and posting a pair of assists apiece as Chicago dropped visiting Milwaukee by a 3-1 count at the Allstate Arena.
The victory propelled the Wolves into a first-place tie with idle Rockford in the West Division, and Chicago still has five games in hand on the IceHogs.
Brett Sterling netted his team-leading 24th goal of the season for the Wolves, his power play goal putting Chicago on top 1-0 in the first period.
Giroux had the second period’s lone goal, but Milwaukee’s Jason Guerriero cut his club’s deficit in half with a shorthanded goal midway through the third.
Krog gave the Wolves breathing room with his 23rd of the campaign with 1:01 to play. His 71 points (23-48-71) for the season are tops in the AHL.
Chicago goaltender Ondrej Pavelec picked up the victory with 20 saves.
IOWA 1, PEORIA 0
Goaltender Tobias Stephan made 26 saves for his fourth shutout of the season as Iowa blanked visiting Peoria 1-0 at the Wells Fargo Arena.
It marked Stephan’s second shutout in his last four appearances. All four of his whitewashes this season have come at home.
Iowa’s Marty Sertich provided the game’s only offense, scoring his 15th goal of the campaign at 10:39 of the third period.
The Rivermen dropped their fourth straight game in regulation and fell to 0-4-0-1 in their last five contests. Goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu took the tough-luck loss with 24 saves.
