BINGHAMTON 2, SYRACUSE 1
Josh Hennessy’s second goal of the night came on the power play at 19:35 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and give Binghamton a 2-1 road win over Syracuse on Sunday at the Onondaga County War Memorial.
Hennessy also scored in the first period for Binghamton, which ended the Crunch’s home winning streak at 18 games, one shy of the AHL record. The Philadelphia Phantoms won 19 straight home games during the 1996-97 season.
Hennessy’s first goal also came on the power play, at 13:55 of the opening period. But Syracuse’s Alexandre Picard tied it at the 19:51 mark.
The teams played scoreless hockey through the second period and most of the third before Hennessy’s late heroics.
Senators goaltender Brian Elliott stopped 34 of 35 shots in picking up the victory.
It marked the Crunch’s first loss at home since March 8, 2008, when Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a 2-1 shootout victory.
BRIDGEPORT 4, PHILADELPHIA 2
Blake Comeau tallied a goal and two assists as Bridgeport doubled up visiting Philadelphia by a 4-2 count at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Ben Walter posted a goal and an assist for the Sound Tigers, while Jesse Joensuu and Dustin Kohn also found the back of the net.
Sound Tigers goaltender Yann Danis earned the win with 22 saves in net.
Jeffrey Szwez scored twice for the Phantoms, who fell back to .500 at 10-10-0-0.
LOWELL 4, SPRINGFIELD 1
Lowell scored three times on the power play and once shorthanded in a 4-1 win over visiting Springfield at Tsongas Arena.
Jon DiSalvatore had a hand in all four goals, scoring the shorthanded tally and adding three assists. Chad Wiseman, Nicklas Bergfors, and Rod Pelley all tallied man advantage markers for the Devils.
Lowell goaltender Jeff Frazee earned the victory with 24 saves on 25 shots.
Ryan Potulny netted the Falcons’ lone goal on the afternoon.
PROVIDENCE 6, HARTFORD 3
Vladimir Sobotka netted a pair of goals and Martin St. Pierre chipped in three points (1-2-3) as Providence doubled up visiting Hartford by a 6-3 count at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
Peter Schaefer and Jeff Penner each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, and Zach Hamill added a goal.
Johnny Boychuk (0-2-2) and Brad Marchand (0-3-3) contributed multiple assists, and Providence goaltender Kevin Regan made 27 saves to pick up the win.
The Wolf Pack received goals from Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, Dale Weise, and Devin DiDiomete in the losing effort.
LAKE ERIE 4, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 2
Lake Erie netted four goals in the second period and went on to a 4-2 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Quicken Loans Arena.
The Penguins initially took a 2-0 lead after the opening stanza on goals from Jeff Taffe and Chris Minard. Taffe (11) and Minard (16) are the team’s two leading goal scorers on the campaign.
But the Monsters stormed back in the second period, as Philippe Dupuis, Rob Drummond, Aaron MacKenzie, and Chris Durno all lit the lamp. Neither side scored in the third period.
Monsters goaltender Tyler Weiman stopped 30 of 32 shots in the winning effort, as Lake Erie faced a shots disadvantage of 32-15.
WORCESTER 3, SAN ANTONIO 1
Worcester rallied from a 1-0 deficit to post a 3-1 road win over San Antonio at the AT&T Center. The Sharks swept a two-game trip to Texas and won their fourth straight game overall.
Cory Larose, Riley Armstrong, and Lukas Kaspar netted goals for the Sharks. Larose and Armstrong scored unassisted, while Steven Zalewski picked up the lone helper on Kaspar’s marker.
Worcester goaltender Thomas Greiss made 31 saves in the winning effort, only allowing a goal to the Rampage’s Brett MacLean in the first period.
San Antonio saw its franchise-record winless skid reach 13 games (0-12-0-1).
HAMILTON 4, HOUSTON 0
Cedrick Desjardins made 20 saves in a shutout performance as Hamilton took a 4-0 road win over Houston at the Toyota Center.
Defenseman Mathieu Carle scored twice and added an assist for the Bulldogs, who scored three goals in the second period.
Brock Trotter and Ben Maxwell added tallies, and Matt D’Agostini chipped in a pair of assists.
Hamilton is now 2-0-0-0 on its four-game road swing, while the Aeros dropped their third straight contest (0-2-0-1).
GRAND RAPIDS 5, IOWA 4 (OT)
Jason Jozsa’s first goal of the season came 1:20 into overtime and gave Grand Rapids a 5-4 road win over Iowa at Wells Fargo Arena.
Darren Haydar scored twice in regulation for the Griffins, while Garrett Stafford and Evan McGrath each posted a goal and two helpers.
Griffins goaltender Daniel Larsson earned the victory with 22 saves, helping Grand Rapids snap a four-game losing skid (0-3-0-1).
Matt Beleskey had a team-high three points (1-2-3) for the Chops, who also received goals from Petteri Wirtanen and T.J. Trevelyan.
