The Carolina Hurricanes, parent club of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, have signed goaltender Drew MacIntyre to a one-year, two-way contract.
MacIntyre, 31, posted a 20-26-5 record, a 2.84 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in 51 games this season with the Checkers. His 51 games played, 2,936 minutes played and 1,474 saves made in 2014-15 were all single-season records for a goaltender in Checkers history. The Charlottetown, P.E.I., native served as backup for Carolina for one game but did not see NHL action in 2014-15.
MacIntyre has appeared in 404 career AHL games, going 212-143-26 with a 2.47 goals-against average, and was named to the AHL’s Second All-Star Team in 2007-08 and 2008-09. He earned his 200th AHL win on Dec. 13, 2014, and his 212 career AHL wins rank him ninth in league history.
MacIntyre originally signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 1, 2014. Detroit’s fifth-round selection, 121st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, MacIntyre (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) has played six career NHL games with Vancouver, Buffalo and Toronto, registering a 2.41 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
