The Los Angeles Kings, parent club of the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs, announced on Saturday that they have acquired 2005-06 AHL rookie of the year Patrick O’Sullivan from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for former AHL All-Star forward Pavol Demitra.
The Kings also acquired the 17th overall pick in Saturday’s NHL Entry Draft. Los Angeles selected center Trevor Lewis with the pick.
O’Sullivan, 21, won the Dudley “Red” Garrett Award as the top rookie in the American Hockey League in 2005-06. Skating for the Houston Aeros, O’Sullivan finished third in the entire league with 47 goals and fourth with 93 points in 78 games.
A second-round draft pick by the Wild in 2003, O’Sullivan was named the Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for both January and February. He earned a spot on the 2005-06 AHL All-Rookie Team, and played for the PlanetUSA team at the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic.
Demitra, 31, played in the AHL All-Star Classic in 1996, when he tallied 81 points in just 48 games for the P.E.I. Senators. In 150 career AHL contests, Demitra totaled 72 goals and 124 assists for 196 points.
