MacLean nets AHL milestone award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League has named Grand Rapids Griffins left wing Donald MacLean as the recipient of the CCM/AHL Milestone of the Month award for March.

On Mar. 12 at Chicago, MacLean became the 46th player in American Hockey League history to score at least 50 goals in a season, and the first to do it in the last five years. In the game, a 7-3 Grand Rapids victory, MacLean scored goal number 49 in the first period before potting number 50 at the 7:53 mark of the second period.

The ninth-year pro is now up to 53 goals on the season, the most by an AHL player in the last decade and the most ever by a player in the history of professional hockey in Grand Rapids, a history which dates back nearly 60 years. MacLean has added 29 assists for 82 points in 73 games, good for seventh in the league scoring race.

MacLean, who reached another milestone by recording his 400th career AHL point on Mar. 18 vs. Toronto, has posted 187 goals and 215 assists in 444 career American Hockey League games.

In recognition of earning the CCM/AHL Milestone of the Month, MacLean will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Griffins home game.
