Maple Leafs sign Hoffman

The Toronto Maple Leafs, parent club of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, announced Friday that they have signed forward Mike Hoffman to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Hoffman, 24, played 58 games for Cleveland of the American Hockey League last season, collecting eight points (1g, 7a) with 170 penalty minutes, good for second on the team.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 248 pounds, Hoffman also played 15 AHL games with Worcester in 2003-04, notching 20 PIM. The Weymouth, Mass., native spent the 2002-03 season with the University of Connecticut.
