The Toronto Marlies announced Wednesday that the team has signed forward Jerred Smithson to a professional tryout contract.
Smithson, 34, has played in 588 career National Hockey League games, collecting 96 points (39 goals, 57 assists) and 354 penalty minutes. The Vernon, B.C., native has also played 294 regular-season games for Lowell, Manchester and Milwaukee of the American Hockey League.
The 6-foot-3, 209-pound center skated in 35 regular-season games with the Florida Panthers last season before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers on April 3.
