Ottawa inks defenseman Johnson

The Ottawa Senators, parent club of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators, announced today that the club has signed defenseman Aaron Johnson to one-year, two-way contract.

Johnson spent the 2013-14 campaign with the New York Rangers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He ranked second among team defensemen and fifth among Hartford players in scoring with 40 points (four goals, 36 assists) while appearing in all but one of the club’s 76 regular-season contests.

A native of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., Johnson has played 291 National Hockey League contests over his career with Boston, Calgary, Chicago, Columbus, Edmonton and the New York Islanders, registering 62 points (17 goals, 45 assists) and 227 penalty minutes.

Selected in the third round in the 2001 NHL Draft by Columbus, Johnson has recorded 150 points (30 goals, 120 assists) and 491 penalty minutes over 328 career AHL contests with Syracuse, Bridgeport, Rockford, Milwaukee, Providence and Hartford.
