Penguins, Hurricanes deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Josh Jooris from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Greg McKegg.

Jooris has been assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL; McKegg will join Carolina’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

Jooris, 27, has skated in 31 games with Carolina this year, producing three goals, three assists and six points. He has also picked up three assists in five AHL games with Charlotte.

A native of Burlington, Ont., Jooris has played 204 career NHL games with Carolina, the N.Y. Rangers, Arizona and Calgary, totaling 23 goals and 32 assists for 55 points. He also has 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 80 career AHL contests with Charlotte, Adirondack and Abbotsford.

McKegg, 25, has appeared in 26 NHL games with Pittsburgh this season, totaling two goals and two assists. He also has five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 28 AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

A third-round draft choice by Toronto in 2010, McKegg has skated in 91 career NHL games with Toronto, Florida, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, registering seven goals and six assists for 13 points. He also has compiled 67 goals and 80 assists for 147 points in 272 career AHL matches with Toronto, Portland, Springfield and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
