San Antonio captured a 5-2 road win over Lake Erie on Monday evening at Hoover Arena in Strongsville, Ohio. Joel Perrault tallied two goals – including his fourth consecutive game-winner – on his 26th birthday to pace the Rampage, who matched a season high by securing their sixth straight victory overall.
Perrault also registered the game-winner in San Antonio’s victories on Mar. 28 vs. Rockford and a pair of shutout wins over Iowa last weekend, and he now shows eight winning tallies on the campaign.
Monday was the continuation of the Rampage-Monsters game that began on Mar. 21 but was suspended after one period due to unsafe ice conditions at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland. San Antonio held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes on defenseman Sean Zimmerman’s first professional goal.
Perrault made it 2-0 on the power play with 2:25 to play in the second frame. But the Monsters battled back on a power play goal from Darcy Campbell in the second period’s closing minute and an unassisted shorthanded marker by Per Ledin 2:25 into the third.
That set the stage for Perrault’s gamer-winner at 10:38, which also came on the man advantage. Wyatt Smith and Sean Sullivan tacked on empty-net goals in the closing minute for San Antonio.
Rampage goaltender Josh Tordjman played the second and third periods on Monday and made 19 saves on 21 shots. Al Montoya had stopped all seven shots he faced in the first period on Mar. 21 and is currently on NHL recall to Phoenix.
Tyler Weiman finished with 32 saves in the loss for the Monsters.
