Pittsburgh signs Uher to one-year deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Dominik Uher to a one-year contract, it was announced Friday by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

 
The deal is a two-way contract that carries an average annual value of $575,000 at the NHL level.
 
Uher, 22, has spent most of the past three years playing for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He made his NHL debut with Pittsburgh on Dec. 23 of this past season against Tampa Bay, and played in two NHL games with the Penguins.
 
In 2014-15, the 6-foot, 202-pound Uher played 72 games for WBS, setting AHL career highs with 26 points on 13 goals and 13 assists to go along with a plus-11. He played all eight playoff games, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
 
In 193 career regular-season games for WBS, Uher has accumulated 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points, a plus-17 and 187 penalty minutes. Uher has added eight points (3G-5A) in 28 AHL postseason contests.
 
The Penguins drafted Uher in the fifth round (144thoverall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
 
Prior to joining the Penguins organization, the Ostvava, Czech Republic native played for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League from 2009-12. In 181 games in the WHL, Uher tallied 144 total points on 58 goals and 86 assists and had a plus-55.
 
Uher has represented Czech Republic twice in his career, in the 2010 Under-18 World Junior Championship and in the 2012 World Junior Championship. At the ’12 WJC, Uher was an alternate captain and he finished with three points (1G-2A) in six games.
