MANITOBA 4, MILWAUKEE 2
Manitoba halted a three-game losing skid by doubling up Milwaukee by a 4-2 count on Tuesday at the Bradley Center in a match-up of the Western Conference’s two division leaders. Jason Krog scored a pair of goals for the Moose, who avenged Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Admirals.
Milwaukee initially grabbed leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first period. Patric Hornqvist scored just 23 seconds after the opening face-off, and Nick Spaling netted a power play marker at the 8:15 mark. In between, Moose defenseman Nolan Baumgartner potted a shorthanded goal at 7:00.
Krog took over in the middle frame, scoring at 11:01 and 14:04 to give the Moose a 3-2 advantage. Krog now shows 21 goals on the season, tied with Michael Grabner for the team lead.
Rookie defenseman Travis Ramsey provided insurance for Manitoba in the third period with his first professional goal.
Grabner and captain Mike Keane each posted two assists, and goaltender Cory Schneider earned the victory with 15 saves on 17 shots.
The Moose concluded their 10-game road trip at 5-3-0-2 and will open a four-game homestand with a pair of tilts against Peoria this weekend.
MANCHESTER 3, PROVIDENCE 2 (SO)
Manchester scored on each of its first three shootout tries en route to a 3-2 win over visiting Providence on Tuesday before 6,814 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Oscar Moller, Vladimir Dravecky, and Scott Parse all netted shootout goals for the Monarchs, and goaltender Daniel Taylor stopped three of Providence’s four tries after making a season-high 45 saves through regulation and overtime.
Taylor upped his season record to 7-2-0 for Manchester, which received regulation tallies from Moller and Trevor Lewis.
Johnny Boychuk and Vladimir Sobotka scored in regulation for the Bruins, and Wacey Rabbit added a shootout marker.
With the victory, Manchester moved into a tie with Worcester for fifth place in the Atlantic Division, one point back of Lowell for the fourth and final playoff spot.
SAN ANTONIO 4, IOWA 3 (SO)
San Antonio wrapped up its marathon 13-game road trip with a 4-3 shootout win over Iowa on Tuesday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Sean Sullivan scored twice in regulation and captain Jeff Hoggan once for the Rampage, while Chad Kolarik chipped in a pair of assists.
Kyle Turris and Alexander Nikulin netted shootout goals to give San Antonio the win. Rampage goaltender Al Montoya made 37 saves through the first 65 minutes before stopping four of five in the shootout.
Troy Bodie provided two of the Chops’ regulation goals and their only successful shootout attempt. Matt Caruana also scored in regulation.
San Antonio concluded its road trip with a record of 4-5-2-2 and will take the ice for a game at the AT&T Center for the first time since Jan. 30 when Rockford visits on Saturday.
