The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the club has signed defenseman Mike Mottau and forward Jon Sim to professional tryout contracts.
Mottau, 34, played the last five seasons in the National Hockey League, and has totaled 313 NHL games throughout his career, recording seven goals and 51 assists for 58 points with Boston, the N.Y. Islanders, New Jersey, Calgary and the N.Y. Rangers. Last season, the native of Quincy, Mass., recorded two assists in 35 games between the Islanders and Bruins.
The 6-foot, 193-pound defenseman has played 463 games in the American Hockey League, recording 47 goals and 232 assists for 279 points. He was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team in 2000-01, and played in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2001, 2002 and 2006.
A 1997 draft pick by the Rangers, Mottau won the Hobey Baker Award as the outstanding player in college hockey as a senior at Boston College in 2000.
Sim, 35, brings nearly 500 games of NHL experience to the Rampage roster. The New Glasgow, N.S., native has played in 469 NHL games, recording 75 goals and 64 assists with the N.Y. Islanders, Atlanta, Florida, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Nashville and Dallas, and was a member of the Stars’ Stanley Cup championship team in 1999.
Sim has also totaled 172 games in the AHL, totaling 94 goals and 77 assists for 171 points. He was the MVP of the 2003 AHL All-Star Game, and won a Calder Cup title with Philadelphia in 2005.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound winger spent last season playing in the Czech Republic and Germany.
