Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today that forward Paul Szczechura has been recalled from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Szczechura, who turns 26 on Wednesday, joins the Sabres on his second recall of the season after making his Sabres debut on Nov. 26 vs. Washington. Szczechura recorded two assists in Buffalo’s 5-1 win over the Capitals.
The Brantford, Ont., native, who signed a one-year NHL contract with the Sabres on Aug. 9, has played in nine games with Rochester this season, collecting 7 points (1g, 6a).
Prior to joining the Amerks, Szczechura spent last season with the Norfolk Admirals (AHL). In 79 games with the Admirals, he collected 52 points (22g, 30a). Szczechura appeared in 83 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning during parts of the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, recording 16 points (9g, 7a).
In 223 career AHL games, Szczechura has totaled 155 points (63g, 92a) between Rochester, Norfolk and the Iowa Stars.
