The Buffalo Sabres, parent club of the AHL’s Rochester Americans, today announced the team has signed forward Cal O’Reilly to a two-year contract.
O’Reilly, 28, captained the Utica Comets to the AHL’s Western Conference championship in 2014-15, appearing in all 76 regular-season games and 23 postseason contests. During the regular season, O’Reilly ranked second in the AHL with 51 assists and tied for 10th with 61 points; he added two goals and 17 assists for 19 points in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
O’Reilly has skated in 416 regular-season games in the AHL with Utica, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Portland and Milwaukee, registering 74 goals and 297 assists for 371 points. He is a three-time AHL All-Star, participating in the mid-season event in 2009, 2010 and 2015. O’Reilly also has 11 goals and 32 assists for 43 points in 66 career playoff games in the AHL.
A fifth-round draft pick by Nashville in 2005, O’Reilly has played 113 NHL games, registering 13 goals and 28 assists for 41 points with the Predators, Phoenix and Pittsburgh. The Toronto native is the older brother of Ryan O’Reilly, who was acquired by the Sabres on June 26.
