TORONTO 5, OKLAHOMA CITY 2
Nazem Kadri scored twice as part of a four-point night to lead Toronto to its first home win of the season, a 5-2 decision over Oklahoma City on Saturday evening.
The Marlies had lost their first three home outings.
Joey Crabb also scored twice and added an assist, rookie Brayden Irwin recorded three assists and James Reimer finished with 31 saves, including 18 in the second period.
Kadri’s two goals included a highlight-reel marker when he deked around Barons defender Jeff Petry and beat Bryan Pitton. Kadri, the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft, now has three goals and four assists for seven points in five games this season.
Liam Reddox and Linus Omark each had a goal and an assist for Oklahoma City, which continues a five-game road trip with a nationally televised visit to Hamilton on Sunday (1:00 ET, CBC, NHL Network U.S.).
ROCKFORD 4, CHICAGO 3 (OT)
Igor Makarov redirected a Ryan Potulny shot at 4:13 of overtime to give Rockford a 4-3 win over Chicago at the MetroCentre on Saturday.
The IceHogs rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final 15 minutes of regulation and improved to 4-3-0-0 on the season.
Rockford was down 3-1 when Rob Klinkhammer scored at 5:04 of the third period. Former Wolves defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy converted on a 5-on-3 power play at 11:51 to tie the score.
Makarov’s game-winner came just 18 seconds after Mike Siklenka was sent off for hooking. Rockford finished the night 2-for-8 on the power play with a shorthanded goal as well: Ben Smith’s first regular-season AHL goal late in the second period.
For the Wolves, Jason Krog had a goal and an assist, Darren Haydar had two assists and Nigel Dawes scored in his Chicago debut.
SAN ANTONIO 2, HOUSTON 0
Matt Climie made 25 saves for his first shutout of the season, backstopping San Antonio to a 2-0 win over Houston in the first meeting of the year between the in-state foes.
Alexandre Picard and Bracken Kearns scored for the Rampage, who have won four in a row.
The Aeros lost their fourth straight and were shut out for the second consecutive night. Houston has scored six goals in five games following a 6-1 win in Oklahoma City on opening night.
Rookie Matt Hackett finished with 24 stops for the Aeros.
PEORIA 2, TEXAS 0
Jake Allen turned aside 36 shots for his first professional shutout as Peoria extended its winning streak to seven games with a 2-0 win over Texas in Cedar Park.
Allen, a second-round draft pick (34th overall) by St. Louis in 2008, stopped 16 shots in the first period, seven in the second and 13 in the third.
It was the second straight shutout victory for the Rivermen, who have not lost since a 4-3 setback to Manitoba in their season opener on Oct. 8. Peoria is a perfect 5-0-0-0 so far on its seven-game road swing through the state of Texas.
Nicholas Drazenovic remained tied for the AHL lead with his sixth goal of the season, and rookie Phil McRae, who was drafted by the Blues one pick before Allen (33rd overall) in 2008, added his fourth on the year.
GRAND RAPIDS 4, ROCHESTER 1
Cory Emmerton, Derek Meech and Francis Pare each notched a goal and an assist in Grand Rapids’ 4-1 road win over Rochester on Saturday.
Thomas McCollum made 26 saves for the Griffins, earning his first win of 2010-11 and his first road victory since Dec. 13, 2009, at Toronto (0-9-2).
Emmerton’s power-play goal late in the second period snapped a 1-1 tie and Meech followed on another man advantage midway through the third.
Kenndal McArdle scored the Amerks’ goal.
MILWAUKEE 3, ABBOTSFORD 1
Linus Klasen recorded a goal and an assist in Milwaukee’s 3-1 win over Abbotsford at the Bradley Center.
Klasen, a Swedish forward in his first season in North America, is tied for the AHL lead with six goals on the season.
Mark Santorelli and former Heat forward Jamie Lundmark also scored for the Admirals, who have defeated Abbotsford twice already this year. The teams will wrap up their season series when Milwaukee visits the Heat for a pair of games next weekend.
Mark Dekanich made 23 saves for Milwaukee.
SYRACUSE 2, HARTFORD 1 (OT)
Shut out for more than 59 minutes, Syracuse stole a 2-1 overtime win in Hartford on Saturday night.
Kyle Palmieri scored with 23.8 seconds left in regulation and Josh Green netted the winner 45 seconds into OT to send the Crunch to their third consecutive victory.
Syracuse (3-2-0-1) has allowed just 11 goals in six games this season.
Jeremy Williams snapped a 0-0 tie with 8:24 gone in the third period, ending the Wolf Pack’s scoreless drought at 158 minutes and 19 seconds.
Timo Pielmeier made 26 saves for the win. Dov Grumet-Morris, in his first AHL action since the 2007-08 season, stopped 21 of 23 shots in defeat.
NORFOLK 3, ALBANY 2
Paul Szczechura’s goal with 5:05 left in the third period lifted Norfolk to a 3-2 win over Albany at the Times Union Center.
The Admirals won for the fifth time in six games to start the season.
Blair Jones finished with a goal and two assists for Norfolk, which scored all three of its goals on the power play. Ty Wishart had a goal and an assist and Marc-Antoine Pouliot recorded two helpers.
Dustin Tokarski stopped 20 shots for the win.
Nathan Perkovich and Brad Mills scored for the Devils. Mike McKenna took the loss despite a 29-save performance.
HERSHEY 5, ADIRONDACK 1
Ashton Rome scored his first two goals of the season as Hershey cruised to a 5-1 win over Adirondack before 7,584 fans at Giant Center on Saturday.
Former Philadelphia Phantom Kyle Greentree had a goal and an assist for the Bears, and Brian Willsie and Steve Pinizzotto also scored. With the win, Hershey avoided its first three-game losing streak in nearly 18 months, since the East Division finals of the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Braden Holtby made 17 saves as the Bears finished with a 37-18 edge in shots. Andrew Rowe had the only Phantoms goal, breaking up Holtby’s shutout bid with 4:23 left.
PORTLAND 2, BRIDGEPORT 1
Meeting for the third time in nine days, Portland got 36 saves from David Leggio in a 2-1 win over Bridgeport at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
T.J. Brennan opened the scoring for the Pirates just 22 seconds into the game, and Matt Ellis doubled the lead at 8:44 of the second period with a power-play marker.
Jesse Joensuu’s tally midway through the third period got the Sound Tigers on the board but Portland held on to move to 6-0-0-0 on home ice this season.
Mikko Koskinen made 29 saves for Bridgeport, which has lost five of seven out of the gate.
MANCHESTER 3, SPRINGFIELD 1
Jeff Zatkoff made 29 saves and Thomas Hickey had a goal and an assist as Manchester got past Springfield, 3-1, at the MassMutual Center.
Hickey scored with 3:10 left in the first period to put the Monarchs on the board first, then set up Justin Azevedo’s shorthanded goal in the opening minute of the second period to make it 2-0.
Chad Kolarik scored a power-play goal for the Falcons later in the middle frame, but Springfield could not get the equalizer before Bud Holloway secured the win with an empty-netter in the waning seconds of the third.
David LeNeveu stopped 28 of 30 shots in net for the Falcons.
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 2, BINGHAMTON 1 (SO)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton kept its perfect start intact with a 2-1 shootout win over visiting Binghamton on Saturday night.
Chris Conner converted in the eighth round and John Curry followed with a stop on Jim O’Brien as the Penguins improved to 6-0-0-0. All six wins have come against East Division opponents, and five have been one-goal decisions.
Corey Locke gave the Senators a standings point with his goal with 10.6 seconds left in regulation, spoiling Curry’s bid for a shutout. Steve Wagner had the Penguins’ regulation goal, a power-play marker with 52 seconds gone by in the third period.
Curry finished with 37 saves in regulation and overtime; Barry Brust stopped 36 of 37 shots for Binghamton.
PROVIDENCE 4, WORCESTER 3 (OT)
Jamie Arniel’s second goal of the night gave Providence a 4-3 overtime win over Worcester in the Sharks’ home opener in front of 7,450 fans at the DCU Center.
Wyatt Smith and Levi Nelson also scored for the Bruins, and former Shark Nolan Schaefer made 31 saves.
Justin Braun recorded a goal and two assists for Worcester, including scoring the equalizer with 44 seconds left in regulation as the Sharks erased a two-goal third-period deficit.
Alex Stalock finished with 24 saves, including a stop on an Antoine Roussel penalty shot in the second period.
