Stars hang on to gain split in Chicago

Paul Szczechura scored twice and Chris Conner and Matt Niskanen added three points apiece as Iowa pulled even in the best-of-seven West Division Finals with a 5-4 win over Chicago in Game 2 on Friday night.

The series shifts to Des Moines for Game 3 on Sunday.

The Stars withstood four power-play goals from the potent Wolves and scored three special-teams goals themselves.

Marius Holtet put Iowa in front for good at the 9:48 mark of the second period, snapping a 3-3 tie. Conner and Niskanen each had a goal and two assists on the night to help the Stars rebound from a 5-0 loss in the series opener.

Jason Krog had a goal and three assists and Darren Haydar assisted on all four goals for Chicago, which lost for the first time this postseason. Defenseman Mark Popovic added two goals and an assist for the Wolves.
