The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Christian Thomas to an American Hockey League contract for the 2017-18 season.

Thomas put up career-best numbers with Hershey last season, recording 24 goals, 25 assists and 49 points in 65 games with the Bears. He also tied for fifth in the AHL with 12 power-play goals.

The 25-year-old Toronto native has skated in 284 career AHL games with Hershey, Springfield, St. John’s, Hamilton and Connecticut, collecting 76 goals and 80 assists for 156 points.

A second-round draft pick by the New York Rangers in 2010, Thomas has also played 27 NHL games with the Rangers, Montreal and Arizona, tallying one goal and two assists.

Thomas’s father, Steve, a veteran of 1,235 games in the NHL, was the AHL’s rookie of the year with the St. Catharines Saints in 1984-85 and won a Calder Cup as an assistant coach with Norfolk in 2012.
