Goaltender Leland Irving brought an end to Abbotsford’s three-game losing skid by posting a 25-save shutout as the Heat captured a 2-0 road win over Milwaukee on Wednesday at the Bradley Center.
Kris Chucko snapped an eight-game scoring drought with a first-period goal for the Heat, with assists going to David Van der Gulik and defenseman Gord Baldwin.
Carsen Germyn made it a 2-0 game with an unassisted tally early in the second frame, his third marker of the season.
Irving (4-3-1) picked up his first shutout of the season for Abbotsford, which had surrendered a combined 13 goals in its last two contests.
The Admirals have now dropped four of their last five games (1-4-0-0).
CHICAGO 3, ROCKFORD 2 (SO)
Tim Stapleton scored the lone shootout goal for either side, lifting Chicago to a 3-2 win over visiting Rockford on Wednesday at Allstate Arena.
Stapleton beat IceHogs goaltender Corey Crawford in the shootout’s second round, and Wolves netminder Manny Legace stopped all five Rockford tries after making 32 saves through the first 65 minutes.
Bryan Bickell put Rockford on top just 4:54 into the contest, but Stapleton tied it for Chicago with a shorthanded goal at the 10:28 mark.
The Wolves grabbed a 2-1 advantage on a Brett Sterling goal at 4:12 of the second frame, only to watch the IceHogs’ Nathan Davis knot it up at 16:41.
Chris Chelios picked up a pair of assists for Chicago, which extended its points streak to three games (2-0-0-1) under new head coach Don Lever.
