Oilers re-acquire Gagner from Vancouver

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward Sam Gagner from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Ryan Spooner.

Gagner has posted 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points in 43 games with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies this season, where he has been on loan from the Canucks. He also has one goal and two assists in seven games for Vancouver.

A first-round pick (sixth overall) by the Oilers in the 2007 NHL Draft, Gagner has appeared in 777 NHL games over his career with Edmonton, Arizona, Philadelphia, Columbus and Vancouver, registering 153 goals and 283 assists for 436 points.

Spooner, 27, had two goals and four assists for six points in seven games with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors this season. He also has three goals and two assists in 41 NHL contests between Edmonton and the New York Rangers in 2018-19.

A second-round selection by Boston in the 2010 NHL Draft, Spooner has 48 goals and 115 assists for 163 points in 314 career NHL games with the Bruins, Rangers and Oilers.
