Oilers sign Pickard, McKegg

The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Calvin Pickard and forward Greg McKegg to two-year, two-way contracts.

Pickard made 43 appearances with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins in 2021-22, posting a record of 21-16-5 with a 2.58 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage and one shutout. He also appeared in three games with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings (1-1-0, 4.30, .875).

In 279 AHL games over 10 pro seasons with Grand Rapids, Tucson, Toronto, San Antonio and Lake Erie, Pickard has a record of 132-100-37, a 2.64 GAA, a .913 save percentage and 16 shutouts. He won a Calder Cup championship with the Marlies in 2018.

A second-round pick by Colorado in the 2010 NHL Draft, Pickard has a record of 35-54-10 (3.03, .903) in 116 career NHL games with Colorado, Toronto, Philadelphia, Arizona and Detroit.

McKegg played 43 games in the NHL with the New York Rangers in 2021-22, potting two goals and three assists. He also skated in one AHL game with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

A 10-year pro, McKegg has played 325 games in the AHL with Hartford, Providence, Charlotte, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield, Portland and Toronto, recording 82 goals and 113 assists for 195 points.

McKegg was a third-round choice by Toronto in the 2010 NHL Draft, and has totaled 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points in 233 career NHL games with Toronto, Florida, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Carolina, the Rangers and Boston.
