Rookie Cam Ward made 37 saves for his fourth shutout of the season as Lowell defeated Hartford on Sunday afternoon, 3-0.

Mike Zigomanis scored a shorthanded goal in the first period, and Richie Regehr and Craig MacDonald scored power-play goals 15 seconds apart in the second period for the Lock Monsters, who moved into third place in the Atlantic Division, seven points behind the Wolf Pack (with five games in hand).

Colin Forbes chipped in with two assists for Lowell, which improved to 10-1-0-1 in its last 12 home games.

Hartford lost its fourth in a row, and saw its scoreless streak extended to 129:08. The Wolf Pack have not scored an even-strength goal in their last 231:23.

A frustrating weekend ended for the Worcester IceCats with a 1-0 loss in Providence on Sunday afternoon.

The IceCats lost to Bridgeport on Friday and to Albany on Saturday.

Brad Boyes scored the only goal of the game at the 7:17 mark of the third period, and Hannu Toivonen finished with 27 saves for his sixth shutout of the year, tying him with Rochester’s Ryan Miller and Manchester’s Mathieu Garon for the AHL lead.

The Bruins now trail fourth-place Worcester by just two points in the Atlantic Division.
