Ottawa inks forward Maloney

The Ottawa Senators, parent club of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators, have signed left wing Brian Maloney to a one-year agreement.

Maloney, 27, comes to the Senators after three full seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers’ AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. He set career highs with 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points in 68 games with Chicago last season.

The native of Bassano, Alta., has earned 72 points (32 goals, 40 assists) and 374 penalty minutes in 218 career AHL games with the Wolves over three-plus seasons. He added five points in 28 career playoff games, helping Chicago to the Calder Cup Finals in 2005.

Maloney, who originally signed with Atlanta as a free agent on Mar. 28, 2003, tallied 136 points (63 goals, 74 assists) and 292 PIM in 159 career games at Michigan State University from 1999-2003. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward led MSU in penalty minutes during three of his four years and served as team captain for his senior season.
