Ottawa signs O’Dell, Stortini, Kostka

The Ottawa Senators, parent club of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators, announced today that the club has agreed to terms with Ottawa native and center Eric O’Dell and with defenseman Michael Kostka on one-year, two-way contracts; and with forward Zack Stortini on a two-year, two-way contract.

O’Dell, 25, recorded 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points in 37 AHL games with the St. John’s IceCaps in 2014-15, and added one assist in 11 NHL games with the Winnipeg Jets.

Originally drafted by Anaheim in the second round (39th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, O’Dell has scored three goals and five assists in 41 career NHL games with Winnipeg. In 180 career AHL games with St. John’s and Chicago, he has scored 72 goals while adding 76 assists for 148 points.

Kostka, 29, registered five goals and 25 assists for 30 points in 63 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack in 2014-15, and added one goal and four assists in 15 postseason games. Kostka also skated in seven NHL games with the New York Rangers, notching one assist.

Kostka has appeared in 406 career AHL games with Hartford, Rockford, Toronto, Norfolk, San Antonio, Rochester and Portland, totaling 42 goals and 172 assists for 214 points. He won a Calder Cup championship with Norfolk in 2012, scoring the game-winning goal in the Cup-clinching game at Toronto.

Kostka has recorded four goals and 16 assists in 70 career NHL games with the Rangers, Toronto, Chicago and Tampa Bay.

Stortini, 29, established career highs for goals (13), assists (12) and points (25) last season while appearing in all 76 games for the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He also recorded 184 penalty mintues.

Originally drafted by Edmonton in the third round (94th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Stortini has totaled 43 goals and 45 assists for 88 points, along with 1,407 penalty minutes, in 442 regular-season games over his AHL career. He has also appeared in 56 postseason games, winning a Calder Cup with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2007.

In 257 NHL games with Edmonton and Nashville, Stortini has tallied 14 goals, 27 assists and 725 PIM.
