The tragic events in Boston on April 15 struck close to home for the Providence Bruins.
Just a short 45-minute drive south from the bombings where three people were killed and nearly 300 people were injured, the Providence Bruins felt compelled to help their parent club, the Boston Bruins, and the city of Boston in any way they could.
Spearheaded by Colleen Whitfield and Nikki Tardif, the wives of captain Trent Whitfield and alternate captain Jamie Tardif, Providence Bruins wives and girlfriends took the initiative to collect donations for The One Fund Boston at Providence Bruins games. The One Fund Boston was established by Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick and Boston mayor Tom Menino to help the people most affected by last week’s events.
Over two games last weekend, the wives collected more than $2,700 in donations for The One Fund Boston. Starting this weekend with Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals and at every Providence Bruins home playoff game going forward, the wives will again be collecting donations for One Fund Boston prior and during the games. Also, with a donation of $5, fans will receive a Boston Strong 617 Providence Bruins bracelet.
