Panthers acquire McKegg from Leafs

The Florida Panthers, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, have acquired forward Greg McKegg from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Zach Hyman and a conditional 2017 seventh-round draft pick.

McKegg, 23, played in 62 games with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) last season, ranking second on the club in goals (22) and fourth in points (37). He also appeared in three games with Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2014-15 season.

For his career in the AHL, McKegg has played in 190 games, all with the Marlies, registering 108 points (50 goals, 58 assists) with 92 penalty minutes.

The St. Thomas, Ont., native was drafted by Toronto in the third round (62nd overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Hyman, 23, completed a four-year collegiate career at the University of Michigan in 2014-15, notching 22 goals and 32 assists for 54 points in 37 games as a senior. He was a fifth-round draft pick by Florida in 2010.
