Penguins ink defenseman Ouellet

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Xavier Ouellet to a two-year, two-way contract

Ouellet has spent the last four seasons with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, serving as team captain. In 2021-22, he posted career highs with 33 assists and 41 points in 61 regular-season games, and added one goal and eight assists in 15 postseason contests as the Rocket reached the Eastern Conference Finals.

Originally a second-round pick by Detroit in the 2011 NHL Draft, Ouellet has played 349 games in the AHL with Laval and Grand Rapids, totaling 36 goals and 123 assists for 159 points. He has also notched four goals and 15 assists in 48 postseason contests, and participated in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2016.

Ouellet has skated in 178 NHL games with Detroit and Montreal, recording five goals and 23 assists for 28 points.
