Penguins ink puck stopper Penner

The Pittsburgh Penguins, parent club of the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, have signed free agent goaltender Andrew Penner.

Penner, 23, appeared in 40 games for the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch during the 2005-06 season, posting a 20-12-1 record with a 3.25 goals-against average and one shutout.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound netminder has appeared in 63 career AHL games with the Crunch, posting a 28-24-2 record with a 3.05 GAA and two shutouts.

The native of Scarborough, Ont., was originally signed as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sept. 17, 2001.
