Penguins, Senators organizations complete trades

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Ben Sexton and defenseman Macoy Erkamps from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Tobias Lindberg and defenseman Stefan Elliott.

In addition, the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have acquired forward Ryan Scarfo from the Belleville Senators in exchange for future considerations.

Sexton, 27, has nine assists in 17 games with Belleville this season. The fifth-year pro has totaled 37 goals and 43 assists for 80 points in 174 career AHL games with Belleville, Albany and Providence.

Originally drafted by Boston in 2009, Sexton made his NHL debut with Ottawa last season, appearing in two games.

Erkamps, 23, has appeared in 21 games with Brampton (ECHL) this season. The third-year pro has appeared in 57 career AHL contests with Belleville and Binghamton, recording one goal and five assists for six points.

Scarfo, 24, is scoreless in six games with Belleville this season and has also recorded one goal and one assist in 10 games with Brampton. The rookie out of Union College made his pro debut with Belleville last spring, notching two goals and two assists in 13 contests with the Senators.

Lindberg, 23, has tallied two goals and four assists in 15 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.

Lindberg returns to the Ottawa organization, which drafted him in the fourth round in 2013. The fourth-year pro has registered 29 goals and 50 assists for 79 points in 179 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Chicago, Toronto and Binghamton, and has notched two assists in six career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Elliott, 27, has picked up one goal and seven assists in 20 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.

A 2015 AHL All-Star and a 2018 Olympic bronze medalist with Canada, Elliott has skated in 254 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Milwaukee and Lake Erie, notching 52 goals and 70 assists for 122 points. He has also appeared in 84 NHL games with Colorado, Arizona and Nashville, picking up eight goals and 16 assists.
