SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Binghamton Senators right wing Andre Petersson has been named the Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for January. Petersson found the scoresheet in each of his eight outings during the month including six multiple-point efforts, totaling eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.
Petersson set personal highs for assists and points in a game on Jan. 4 when he dished out three helpers in a 4-3 win at Adirondack, including setting up the game-winning goal with 1:08 left in regulation. He notched a goal and an assist each in consecutive games vs. Connecticut on Jan. 6 and vs. Rochester on Jan. 7, and earned his first career NHL recall on Jan. 17. After making his debut with Ottawa on Jan. 21, Petersson returned to Binghamton and registered back-to-back two-goal performances, scoring twice on the power play in a 3-2 win over Albany on Jan. 27 and picking up two more goals in a 7-4 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Jan. 28.
The 21-year-old Petersson ranks fifth among AHL rookies with his team-leading 16 goals and has added 13 assists for 29 points in 32 games with Binghamton this season. A native of Olofstrom, Sweden, Petersson was selected by Ottawa in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
In recognition of his achievement, Petersson will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Senators home game.
