Petruzalek helps River Rats rally past Sound Tigers

ALBANY 5, BRIDGEPORT 3

Jakub Petruzalek posted a four-point night as Albany recovered from a 2-0 deficit to secure a 5-3 win over visiting Bridgeport on Wednesday at the Times Union Center in the 2008 preseason opener for both clubs.

Petruzalek tallied a goal and three assists for the River Rats, while Yannick Tifu and Nicolas Blanchard each scored twice in the victory.

Jonathan Paiement and Matt Murley each chipped in a pair of assists for Albany, which went 3-for-12 on the power play.

James Sixsmith registered a goal and an assist for the Sound Tigers, while Jon Gleed and Jason Pitton also found the back of the net. Bridgeport went 1-for-10 with the man advantage.


PROVIDENCE 4, SPRINGFIELD 1
Adam McQuaid and newcomer Greg Classen each tallied a goal and an assist to lift Providence over Springfield, 4-1, at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass.

Rookie winger Jordan Knackstedt also scored for the Bruins, as did fellow rookie Kirk MacDonald.

Providence starting goaltender Kevin Nastiuk stopped 13 of 14 shots over 30:08 of play, and 2008 Hobey Baker Award finalist Kevin Regan denied all 18 attempts sent his way over the final 29:52.

Bryan Lerg netted the Falcons’ lone goal on the evening.


HAMILTON 3, TORONTO 1
Rookie center Brock Trotter tallied a goal and an assist as Hamilton posted a 3-1 win over Toronto at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Trotter made his professional debut for the Bulldogs late last season, posting nine points (3-6-9) in 21 games of action.

The teams traded power play goals in the first period, with Toronto’s Tim Stapleton lighting the lamp at 4:20 and Hamilton’s Thomas Beauregard answering at the 19:27 mark.

The Bulldogs then took command in the second period, as Trotter made it 2-1 just 1:17 in and newcomer Mike Glumac provided insurance at 18:01.


HARTFORD 3, WORCESTER 2
Matt Zaba stopped 24 out of 26 shots Wednesday night to backstop the Hartford Wolf Pack to a 3-2 preseason victory over the Worcester Sharks at the Koeppel Community Sports Center at Hartford’s Trinity College. It was the preseason opener for both teams.

Hartford got goals from Sergei Demagin, Tom Pyatt and Jordan Owens, while Rory Rawlyk and Ashton Rome tallied for Worcester.

In the Worcester net, Derek MacIntyre allowed two goals on 15 shots in 29:30 of play, and Ryan Daniels stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced in 30:20 of work.


ROCKFORD 4, PEORIA 3 (SO)
Rookie Peter MacArthur scored twice in regulation and once in the shootout as Rockford edged host Peoria, 4-3, at Carver Arena in the preseason opener for both teams.

The IceHogs went 3-for-3 in the shootout, with Bryan Bickell and Judd Blackwater also lighting the lamp. Rockford goaltender Ryan Nie stopped all three Peoria attempts.

Bickell finished with a goal and an assist in regulation for Rockford, and Jake Dowell chipped in a pair of helpers.

The Rivermen received a pair of regulation goals from Nicholas Drazenovic and one from Ryan Reaves
