Phantoms have the White stuff

Peter White snapped a tie with 10:20 left in the third period as Philadelphia staved off elimination with a 4-2 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday night.

The Phantoms still trail the East Division final series, 3-2, with Game 6 set for Wilkes-Barre’s Wachovia Arena on Friday night.

White’s goal, the 28th of his AHL playoff career, put Philadelphia back in front after the Penguins had rallied from a two-goal deficit.

Mark Murphy and Ben Stafford gave the Phantoms a 2-0 first-period lead after Wilkes-Barre had posted shutouts in Games 3 and 4.

Kris Beech and Shane Endicott answered for the Penguins, who are seeking their second trip to the AHL’s final four in the last four seasons.

Rookie Jeff Carter netted his fourth goal of the postseason into an empty net in the final minute.

Antero Niittymaki made 31 saves for the win, while Andy Chiodo suffered the loss, making 20 saves.

Attendance at the Wachovia Center was 6,084.
