Phantoms sign Hamel

The Adirondack Phantoms have announced they have signed veteran winger Denis Hamel to a professional tryout contract (PTO).

The three-time AHL All-Star has tallied 290 goals and 265 assists for 555 points in 710 AHL games over 10 seasons with the Binghamton Senators and Rochester Americans.

Hamel also has 192 games of NHL experience with Buffalo, Ottawa, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

The 33-year-old native of Lachute, Que., was a First Team AHL All-Star in 2003-04. He won a share of the Willie Marshall Award as the league’s leading goal-scorer in 2005-06 when he netted 56 goals, and he received the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the AHL’s man of the year in 2007-08.

Hamel is an eight-time 20-goal scorer in the AHL, including last season when he scored 22 goals and added 29 assists in 73 games for Binghamton. He is also a two-time Calder Cup finalist, reaching the championship series with Rochester in 1999 and 2000.
