Phantoms sign O’Reilly to two-year AHL pact

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have signed forward Cal O’Reilly to a two-year AHL contract.

O’Reilly, 32, has played 13 professional seasons and is coming off one of his most productive offensive campaigns in 2018-19, when he posted 16 goals, 51 assists and 67 points in 67 games with the AHL’s Iowa Wild.

O’Reilly appeared in his fifth AHL All-Star Classic last winter (2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2019), and captained the Wild to the franchise’s first playoff appearance — adding three goals and six assists in 11 postseason games.

O’Reilly has skated in 667 regular-season games in the AHL with Iowa, Toronto, Rochester, Utica, Portland, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Milwaukee. He ranks 16th in AHL history with 461 assists and 55th with 581 points while being assessed only 134 minutes in penalties.

O’Reilly has also skated in 88 playoff games in the AHL, recording 15 goals and 44 assists for 59 points. He reached the Calder Cup Finals with Milwaukee in 2006 and with Utica in 2015.

A 2005 draft choice by Nashville (fifth round), O’Reilly has played 145 games in the NHL with Nashville, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Minnesota, recording 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points.
