Phantoms sign veteran goalie Dekanich

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have signed goaltender Mark Dekanich to an American Hockey League contract.

A 31-year-old native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Dekanich is entering his 10th professional season in 2017-18. Last year, he went 21-12-1 with a 3.04 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage and one shutout in 39 appearances with Reading of the ECHL. He also made one appearance with Lehigh Valley, stopping 26 of 31 shots in 33 minutes of relief work vs. Providence on Jan. 21.

Dekanich has played 164 career games in the AHL with Lehigh Valley, Hershey, St. John’s, Springfield and Milwaukee, posting a record of 82-55-13 with a 2.42 GAA, a .914 save percentage and 11 shutouts. He appeared in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2011.

Nashville’s fifth-round selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Dekanich has played one game in the NHL, with the Predators in 2010-11.
