Pirates stick it to B’s

Jared Aulin scored two goals and assisted on another as Portland posted a 4-1 victory over Providence on Saturday night.

The Pirates, who had allowed 13 goals in their previous two outings, also got 38 saves from Maxime Ouellet in the win.

The Bruins lost in regulation for just the second time in 15 games (10-2-0-3).

Aulin opened the scoring with a man advantage 4:04 into the game. Overlapping five-minute majors gave Portland eight minutes and 39 seconds of uninterrupted power play time in the first period.

Tomas Fleischmann and Owen Fussey made it 3-0 midway through the second period and chased Hannu Toivonen, who made 22 saves, from the Providence crease.

Aulin scored again just 32 seconds after Cody Rudkowsky came on in relief.

Boyd Gordon added two assists for the Pirates. Jay Henderson scored the only Bruins goal, spoiling Ouellet’s shutout bid at 13:09 of the third period.
