Pittsburgh inks Ferriero

The Pittsburgh Penguins, parent club of the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, have signed forward Benn Ferriero to a one-year contract.

Ferriero’s contract is a two-way deal worth $700,000 at the NHL level.

Ferriero, 25, has spent the last three seasons in the San Jose organziation, totaling 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in 92 regular-season games and one goal in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games for the NHL Sharks. He also has 44 goals and 59 assists for 103 points in 121 AHL games with Worcester.

Last season, Ferriero tallied seven goals and one assist in 35 NHL contests, along with nine goals and 11 assists in 20 AHL outings. He played four seasons at Boston College and was a member of the Eagles’ 2008 national championship team.
